If you are looking for College graduation picture ideas, here are a few that will work not only in the Cypress and Katy, Texas area, but anywhere. Your college graduation is a special time and needs to be remembered. You’re probably thinking, “but I took high school graduation pictures, why do I need college graduation pictures?” College graduation pictures are different. You have had 4 more years of learning, study, and exams and accomplished more in your life and you should have the memories to show it!
What do you wear to a college graduation photo shoot?
When considering college graduation picture ideas, consider what you will wear to the photo shoot. Your college graduation photos should reflect your personality, your interests, and if possible, your field of study. Formal outfits are a nice touch – a nice dress, suit and tie, etc. for a classy look. You should also consider a casual look – jeans and a nice top, sundress (depending on the time of year), jeans and your favorite t-shirt for the guys. That way you can be more comfortable in some of the poses for your graduation pictures.
Depending on when you schedule the graduation photo shoot, you should bring your cap and gown if you have it. If you don’t have it, I offer the option of doing a 30 minute mini photo shoot later when you get your cap and gown as part of your package and no extra charge.
Were you in the band in college? Bring your instrument. Were you part of a Sorority or Fraternity? One of your outfits can reflect the colors of the organization. When you contact you photographer, we can usually give you options and more photoshoot ideas to make it unique.
Another college graduation picture idea is to wear a shirt or jersey from the college. Represent the school colors and the good times you had there!
How should I pose for a graduation photoshoot?
While this is not a college graduation picture idea, I am often asked, “how should I pose for a graduation photoshoot?” I often tell the college grads number one is to be yourself. Don’t be stiff and rigid. Relax as much as possible. If you think you will be nervous on your shoot, bring along a friend to help you relax by telling jokes, stories, or even playing music. Even though you should be relaxed, good posture makes a difference, keep your back straight, your stomach in, pull your shoulders back, etc. These tips will keep you from slouching in your photos and give you an overall better look.

How you angle your face and body make a BIG difference in the photos. While some trendy poses are nice, try not to make ALL of your poses that way. Again, your photoshoot needs to reflect your personality. Whether you are sitting or standing, your photographer can help you keep the best poses for your photos
Final tips for College Graduation picture ideas
A few final things to remember when thinking about your photoshoot. If you are known for smiling a lot, then by all means smile! But, if you normally do not smile, then find a balance between a few photos of you smiling and others as you normally look, which can still be relaxed without looking “mean”. Bring some props with you, balloons, sparkling cider or champagne, smoke bombs or confetti. One note about smoke bombs and confetti, some locations like public parks do not allow those so please check with the location before so you or the photographer are not fined or asked to leave.
